American Hell - Drawing Conclusions in Black and White

Suggest A Name

May 5, 2007

American Hell varies from being written using people’s names to just using the third person singular.

The main rule I apply when picking a name for a cartoon is that nobody I know who happens to have that name is likely to believe that I’m talking about them – because that would be too obvious; I’m much more likely to be talking about their sister.

The other rule I have in picking a name is that it sounds right, like Peter being a fish for example when William could never be.

You can’t help me directly with the second issue but sometimes I get tired of thinking up names. So feel free to suggest a name to be used in a future cartoon. I don’t care if it’s your own name, the name of someone you love, or the name of someone you hate; it just needs to be a name.

And only suggest a name please – don’t suggest that the name be applied to a good guy, a bad guy, or a fish. If you suggest anything further than a name I’ll moderate your ass.

I’ll leave this post in the sidebar for you to add names to and for me to pick names off. And maybe I’ll keep it there until we’ve all run out of names and ideas.

If and as I use the names suggested I’ll link to their cartoons from your comments.

I saw a jazz album by this man today, and you simply must use his name. It is:

    Thenolious Monk.

Astounding. He could only be a jazz musician. Or a private dick, with asthma.

  30. Comment by martha — July 17, 2007 @ 2:07 am

    Hey, Eolai!
It’s been a couple of weeks since anyone augmented your name bank, so here goes:

reginald, brent, micah, holden, warren, samuel
francine, elsie, morgan, brenda, rhiannon, nicole

I was disappointed there was no July 16 entry, but I guess you need a break sometimes. Or maybe nothing was funny?

    Later,
    MWK
